LAY ME TO SLEEP

Lay me to sleep in death
Gently place my body beneath the earth
Wherefore here my path
Is met with an end
Send
My spirit to dwell among gods
To sit in a throne of lords

Mine is not a gentle life
There are days when I seem to thrive
Only so my fall in the rubble and mud and dungeons
Can break me all the more
These lions
Roared, and chased, and paced and tore
Every bone from my spine
Till I am a dwindling flicker
That dies with the softest breath
Lay me to rest among the stars
So they can burn brighter than my scars
Send my body down the river
And let the deep silence sooth and rock my troubled soul in to eternity
